Boater Found Dead Off Coast Of Redondo Beach

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The body of a 50-something man was found floating off the coast of Redondo Beach Sunday.

Authorities said the man rented the boat Sunday about 11:15 a.m. in Marina del Rey.

The boat was due back around 1:15 p.m., reported Adrianna Weingold for CBS2.

Officials said the man's body was found "some distance" from the rental boat.

Passing boaters reported an empty boat floating far from shore this afternoon.

Sheriff's Deputies spoke to the man's family who said he set out for an afternoon of fishing.

They also told authorities the man had "mobility problems" and would have been unlikely to be able to swim if he fell overboard.

Deputies told Weingold there were seven life jackets on board the boat.

The victim was not wearing a life jacket.
