Stepfather Arrested In Connection With Stabbing Death Of Young Woman

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Sunday said they’ve arrested the stepfather of a young woman who was found stabbed to death at a Hawthorne apartment complex.

Long Beach police took 59-year-old Alvin Hunt Jr. into custody about 4 p.m. Saturday in connection with the death of his stepdaughter, 22-year-old Naquia Catching.

Catching was discovered dead by her mother shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 26, in the 4800 block of West 118th Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said Hunt was spotted by a security guard near Seaside Park, who then contacted police.

He was subsequently arrested and booked on suspicion of murder.

Hunt’s bail was set at $2 million.

No further information was immediately available.
