Elderly Couple Stuck In Mud For 2 Nights After GPS Leads Motor Home To Oregon Back Road
CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A Kern County elderly couple was stuck in the mud for two nights after their GPS system directed their motor home to an Oregon back road.
Dorris and Charles Garton, of Ridgecrest, were following their navigator to get to an RV rally in Oregon when their motor home and golf cart got trapped behind fallen trees on a logging road.
The Gartons’ instinct told them to turn around when the directions felt wrong, but the duo said their 6-month-old GPS told them to push forward.
“The trees started really closing in on us. We should have stopped then and called 911 for an alternate route to get out of the situation,” Dorris told KCAL9’s Crystal Cruz via phone.
The couple eventually called deputies for help, but not before they spent a few nights in the dark.
“It was nice to sleep in absolute darkness; no street lights. And the bears didn’t come to visit. And no deer came peering in the window,” said Dorris.
