HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police Friday were investigating a deadly hit-and-run accident in Hollywood.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and North Highland Avenue, Los Angeles police said.

According to KNX 1070’s Pete Demetriou, the unidentified woman was at a bus stop with friends in the 6700 block of Santa Monica Boulevard and was reacting to a story or a joke when she was hit by the vehicle.

Friday afternoon, the victim was identified as Keymontae Mackenzie of Lancaster.

Mackenzie was transgendered.

She was carried 40 or more feet on the car before falling off, officials said. Mackenzie, who would have turned 23 on October 6, died at the scene.

The suspect’s car was described only as a late-model, light-colored Ford or Thunderbird, investigators said.
