Suspect Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting In Unincorporated Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday continued to investigate an officer-involved shooting in unincorporated Hawthorne.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that the shooting happened near 145th Street and Chadron Avenue at approximately 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Sheriff's deputies say a foot pursuit ensued between Hawthorne Police and the suspect after the officer conducted a traffic stop of a suspected stolen vehicle at 147th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard.

When the vehicle stopped, the male suspect fled on foot.

"The suspect jumped from an elevated porch and confronted the officer, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting," the statement said.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

No officers were hurt.
