Man, 45, Fatally Shot In Front Yard Of Home Near Whittier

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Monday were investigating the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old man in an unincorporated part of Whittier.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Sunday in the 6100 block of Pioneer Boulevard, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found an unidentified man lying in the front yard of his home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

According to witnesses, the man, along with his wife and another couple, were in the yard when a white sedan drove by.

"Someone from inside the car shot at the individuals standing in the front yard, striking the victim," Lt. John Corina said.

No one else was injured in the shooting.

"Although the victim is not a gang member, it is believed, the shooting was gang related," Lt. Corina said.

The car fled the scene northbound on Pioneer Boulevard toward Whittier Boulevard.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
