Suspect In Canyon Country Burglary Remains At Large

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — A man suspected of burglarizing a Canyon Country home remained at large on Friday.

A statement issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says the suspect is believed to have stolen two purses from the kitchen area of the home about 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities said one of the residents, identified as a reserve police officer, discovered the suspect standing inside his kitchen after hearing a loud crash and finding his sliding glass door shattered.

The statement said the victim quickly grabbed his handgun and ordered the suspect to stop and lay down.

Moments later, the victim fired his gun at the suspect after he said the suspect had moved possibly toward him.

The suspect, described as a 5-foot, 7-inch tall man between the ages of 15 to 20, ran off. He weighed approximately 150 pounds, the statement said.

It's not known if the suspect was struck by the gunfire.

A search was subsequently launched but the suspect was not located.
