Dana Point Woman Gets 6 Months After Reportedly Setting Fire At Lingerie Store

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 43-year-old woman was sentenced to six months in jail Tuesday after pleading guilty to trying to set fire at a Dana Point lingerie store by torching gifts that were bought there by her ex-boyfriend.

Jennifer Renee Colwell ended up pleading guilty to recklessly causing a fire of a structure, which is a felony. Another felony charge of arson of property was dismissed.

Following her jail-time, Colwell will be on five years of formal probation.

An arrest warrent was issued for Colwell in June when she had failed to appear for her court date. She was arrested on June 21 and has been locked up ever since, according to jail records.

A sheriff's deputy witnessed the attempted arson at about 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 at 34183 Pacific Coast Highway, sheriff's officials said.

Colwell placed items, which had been purchased at the store by her ex-boyfriend, into a pillowcase before soaking it with gas and setting it ablaze. She allegedly hurled it at the business because she was distraught over the failed relationship.
