Fontana Police Search For Assault Victim They Suspect Was Kidnapped

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday continued to search for a man who they believe was a victim of assault and possibly later kidnapped.

Fontana police said in a department statement that officers received a call about 5 a.m. Friday of an unknown problem in the 6800 block of Beechcraft.

CBS2's Thomas Wait reports that 40-year-old Alejandro Padilla was leaving for work when police believe he was attacked near the front of his home.

"I get a phone call from my sister-in-law saying that the police officers were in the house and apparently my brother's car and him are both missing," Robert Padilla, the victim's brother, said.

Robert said his brother has two grown daughters and a wife. They all slept through the apparent assault.

The bloody confrontation was heard by a neighbor who called police and said she could hear yells for help.

Authorities told Wait they found "significant evidence" of a struggle.

A block from the scene, evidence technicians also recovered what appeared to be a ski mask in the street. There was no word if it was connected to the assault.

Officials also told Wait they have no reason to believe the crime was drug-related or that Padilla was involved in any wrongdoing. They described Padilla's missing car as a black 2009 Nissan Versa. The vehicle has California license plate 6GZF702.

Padilla's family says they are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his return home.

Family and friends tell KCAL9 that they are starting a search for Padilla on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at the Ralphs parking lot at Baseline and Cherry.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the Fontana Police Department at (909) 350-7700.
