Irvine Woman Accused Of Running Over Officer At John Wayne Airport

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — An Irvine woman was in police custody Wednesday on an attempted murder charge after allegedly running over an Orange County airport police officer with her SUV.

KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports authorities say 48-year-old Rebecca McLaughlin was on the second level of a parking structure at John Wayne Airport on Tuesday evening when she hit a Airport Special Officer on bike patrol.

Radio transmissions released by the Orange County Sheriff's Department appear to capture the officer calling a dispatch operator to report he had landed on the hood of what is alleged to be McLaughlin's vehicle.

The only audible words from the officer's response are "unable to hear" as a woman appears to be screaming in the background.

McLaughlin was apparently attempting to exit the parking structure by crashing into an exit gate, according to Landa.

She was booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
