Southwest Airlines Experiences System-Wide Computer Glitch

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A system-wide computer glitch is causing some air traffic nightmares for Southwest Airlines and its passengers.

The airline reported to LAX Operations around 8 p.m. that they were experiencing a computer malfunction that was affecting some of their flight operations.

Officials said about 25 flights (12 inbound, 13 outbound) were scheduled through the end of the evening.

An airline spokesperson told KCAL9 that all incoming flights were landing without delay.

She also said about five of the 13 outgoing flights were experiencing delays of 30 to 80 minutes.

The spokesperson said that only three flights, all departures, were being affected at LA/Ontario Airport.

It was unknown if any flights at Burbank were being affected.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, Southwest reported at LAX that their computer system was "returning to operational status." They said some delayed flights might be cancelled. Southwest advised checking with the airline before coming to any terminal.
