Man, 21, Charged With Attempted Murder Of 7-Month-Old Child

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the attempted murder of a 7-month-old child, Ontario police said Wednesday.

Ryan Anthony Garcia was arrested Tuesday after first responders were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of West J Street for a baby not breathing.

The baby boy was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. While receiving medical care, doctors noticed injuries to the child that indicated possible child abuse.

"Detectives began a follow up investigation and determined that a man and his girlfriend, who are acquaintances of the child's mother, were providing child care for the baby when he stopped breathing," Sgt. David McBride said in a news release.

The investigation later revealed that Garcia, an Ontario resident, allegedly became upset with the child and inflicted severe injuries upon him, causing the baby to stop breathing, McBride added.

Garcia was arrested without incident and booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
