Hathaway Fire 73 Percent Contained

BANNING (CBSLA.com) — The Hathaway Fire, which has scorched 3,807 acres in the San Gorgonio Wilderness area, was 73 percent contained as of Monday night.

Nearly 750 firefighters remained on the scene to improve and build new containment lines in the blaze, which broke out June 9 and has burned in a steep, remote area. Crews also focused on the fire's remaining hot spots.

Full containment was expected by June 25.

"Firefighters have been using minimal impact suppression tactics …with the goal of creating the least impact to natural and cultural resources," a U.S. Forest Service statement said.

Nine firefighters suffered minor injuries in the effort, which has been fought on the ground and from the air.
