Caltrans Closes Alondra Boulevard Bridge As Part Of I-5 Corridor Improvement Project

SANTE FE SPRINGS ( — Local commuters were directed Monday to detours following the closure of a portion of Alondra Boulevard in Santa Fe Springs.

Caltrans closed the Alondra Boulevard Bridge and the northbound Interstate 5 onramp Sunday at 7 p.m.

Alondra Boulevard was restriped and k-rail was put in place in order overnight to prepare for the demolition of the bridge that is scheduled to begin Friday.

The 57-year-old bridge will be widened to six lanes from four. The demolition work will take place Friday and Saturday nights for six weekends.

I-5 between Valley View Avenue and Carmenita Road will be shut down overnight during the demolition work.

The long-term full closure is a part of the $110 million Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) South Corridor Improvement Projects to widen the freeway, add a carpool lane and reconstruct the bridge.

The bridge, as well as Alondra Boulevard between Freeway Drive and Marquardt Avenue, will be fully closed until mid-to-late 2014, officials said.
