BANNING (CBSLA.com) — The 1,500-acre Hathaway Fire was 15 percent contained Monday.

The brush fire was reported at 11:57 a.m. Sunday on the Morongo Indian Reservation near Banning in Riverside County, the U.S. Forest Service said.

“The fire has burned north onto the National Forest, heading towards Snow Peak, Raywood Flat and the San Gorgonio Wilderness,” John Miller of the San Bernardino National Forest said.

The fire is burning in a rugged and remote area of the National Forest and is not threatening any structures.

Nearly 1,000 firefighters and 17 aircraft were on scene.

No evacuations have been ordered.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
