CARSON (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Wednesday were investigating a drive-by shooting that killed a man and wounded a woman.

The shooting happened around 9:55 p.m. Tuesday on a sidewalk at the intersection of 169th Street and Billings Drive in Carson, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

According to detectives, a SUV drove by a group of people standing outside and opened fire.

An adult male and female suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital where the man was pronounced dead, officials said.

The female victim was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Their identities were not released.

The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang related.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
