Riverside County Couple Pleads Not Guilty To Baby's Death

INDIO (AP) — A Riverside County couple has pleaded not guilty in the death of a 2-month-old baby girl who held on to life for nearly a week before dying of multiple traumatic injuries.

The Desert-Sun reports 19-year-old Sarah Connor and 22-year-old Joseph Champion entered their pleas Friday in the same courtroom, without acknowledging each other.

They each pleaded not guilty to murder and felony child assault charges during a brief appearance in an Indio courtroom.

Police responded to a medical call May 24 and found the baby girl was not breathing.

Harmony Rae Marie was taken to two hospitals before she died May 29.

They are due to return to court June 10. If convicted, they each face a potential sentence of 25 years to life.
