Girl, 15, Hailed As Hero For Rescuing Siblings From Burning Home

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters are calling a 15-year-old girl from San Bernardino a hero for rescuing her three younger siblings from a burning home.

The fire at the two-story home in the 5500 block of N. Western broke out about 4:12 p.m. Friday.

A statement issued by the San Bernardino City Fire Department says the unidentified teen was doing her homework while babysitting when she heard a smoke detector sound.

She searched each room for the fire and then realized that it was in her mother's locked room.

The girl then sprang into action, locating her siblings; twins ages two-and-a-half and 11-year-old brother. All four exited the home unharmed.

She alerted authorities. Four fire engines and 22 firefighters and one chief officer arrived on scene. The fire was put out within minutes.

The statement says the fire caused an estimate $240,000 in damage.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
