Suspect Arrested After Santa Monica College Placed On Lockdown

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A suspect, described by police as suicidal, was in custody Thursday following a threat against Santa Monica College, authorities said.

The unidentified male was arrested on campus shortly after 9:30 a.m., according to Santa Monica Police.

"A subject we were looking for based on phone calls we received was located on the campus and taken into custody without incident," Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO. "He was actually inside the Psych (Psychological) Services building."

School officials notified students through robocalls and email alerts that the campus was on lockdown following a threatening phone call, which was made around 8 a.m.

Students John Adams Middle School were also ordered to "shelter in place" as a precaution.

The lockdown was believed to be linked to reports of an alleged gunman who called 911 and issued a threat against campuses in the Monterey Park and East Los Angeles areas.
