Racist Graffiti, Death Threats Target Black Students At Agoura High School

AGOURA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Racist graffiti targeting African American students was discovered on walls at Agoura High School over the past few days.

Although the remarks, which included “Go back 2 Africa,” were removed by administrators before classes Monday, another hateful message was painted in a bathroom during school hours Wednesday—a list of kids who would be the “first to die.”

Students learned about the incident through the rumor mill.

“I think people are cowards for doing it behind everyone’s back,” a student told KCAL9’s Suzie Suh.

Angry parents and students gathered at the school Wednesday, asking why they were not immediately informed about the graffiti.

“Does (my son) have to watch his back when he’s coming to school?” a parent said.

Parent Ron Cash said, “I am horrified.”

Principal Larry Misel said the crime will not be tolerated.

“We don’t want people to think that these sorts of things happen…we were following clues and there’s a reason that we were more sequestered than normal,” he said.

Sheriff’s investigators interviewed students on campus.

It’s unclear if they have a suspect yet, but they said there’s no viable threat.

“(The suspects) win if our kids don’t come to school…they think they’re scared, they’re afraid,” a mother said.
