Bear Sighting Sends Sunbathers Running In La Cañada

LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — The lockdown on two La Cañada Flintridge schools was lifted Monday after a bear was captured and sedated in a nearby neighborhood.

The animal was first reported in a tree along the 4900 block of Crown Avenue of La Cañada Flintridge around 2:55 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Paradise Canyon Elementary School and St. Francis High School were placed on lockdown following the reported sighting.

The bear was caught by SKY9 climbing into the backyards of various homes in the area before it sent a group of swimmers at a pool in one residence running after spotting the bear. The La Crescenta Sheriff's Department tweeted the bear had been captured at about 3:40 p.m.

Fish and game officials will soon remove the bear from the neighborhood.
