Sit 'n Sleep Looking To Fill 100 Positions From Orange County To Santa Barbara

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — California mattress superstore Sit 'n Sleep is accepting applications for 100 positions in Los Angeles and surrounding counties.

CEO Larry Miller, a Southern Californian from the South Bay, says business is booming and he hopes he can play some part in reviving the local economy by bringing in more jobs.

"It's tough enough to struggle with a job, I can't imagine how difficult and the pain these people are feeling out there that are unemployed, but if you're really good and you want a great future, come and apply at Sit N Sleep!" he enthused.

Miller started the business with his father 33 years ago in Culver City.

"First year in business was futons, sofa beds, a couple of mattresses, that's why we called ourselves Sit 'n Sleep," the businessman explained.

Today the company has 32 stores from Santa Barbara to Laguna Hills and its looking to hire more than 100 new employees ranging from sales associates to customer service representatives.

"We also signed up Long Beach, we signed up San Juan Capistrano and we've got 7 other leases that we're working on currently," Miller said.

Jason McCarron got his start in sales selling mattresses at the Laguna Hills store 15 years ago. Today he's Sit 'n Sleep's regional manager.

"I would say our average sales people are making an average of $60,000 and $90,000 a year," he said.

McCarron said most sales associates hit the floor running after two weeks of training.

Pay is based on commission although Sit 'n Sleep will pay an hourly rate when an employee is having a bad week.

Employees working over 32 hours a week also receive full benefits, including health, dental and life insurance, profit sharing, 401(K) and paid vacation after a 90-day probation period.

Potential candidates, including veterans and those skilled in customer service, are welcome to apply - even if they know nothing about mattresses.

"We can teach people what they need to know about beds. We can't teach them to be great people so if you're a great person and you're interested in a great future, Sit 'n Sleep's a wonderful place to come to work," Miller said.
