Girl, 7, Finds Recipe For Success With Budding Cupcake Business

TOPANGA (CBSLA.com) — A 7-year-old girl is proving to be quite the entrepreneur after getting her fledgling cupcake business off the ground.

Second-grader Lucy Babcock founded her first company at the age of six after she discovered her love of baking at a Girl Scout meeting.

"I was making cupcakes for my Girl Scout Troop because it was my birthday and I just felt that it was my passion," Lucy told KCAL9'S Stephanie Simmons.

When she's not studying, the budding businesswoman is running Lucy's Bake Shop, offering cookies, cakes and other confections to locals with a sweet tooth.

Ten months after kick-starting the venture she already has more than a dozen repeat customers - including the Topanga Chamber of Commerce.

She bakes with very little help from mom.

"It's quite the opposite. She is a little creative genius herself," Jennifer Babcock said.

Lucy is busy now preparing Mother's Day orders, whipping up her special Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes.

Her other favorite sweets include a chocolate S'mores cupcake and a "Man Cake", made with bacon, pumpkin, cinnamon and maple syrup.

Lucy saves her share of profits and gives the rest to charity. The venture, she said, has already taught her a few worthwhile lessons.

"To do my best," Lucy said of her goal for the company. "And don't worry if I don't do good - because we can fix it."
