VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday were investigating a bomb threat that prompted the evacuation of a Van Nuys neighborhood.

An anonymous caller contacted police around 12:20 a.m. and reported that there was a bomb in a car parked in the 7300 block of Lennox Avenue, near the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Sherman Way.

“Well, they said that the vehicle with flashing lights, that a bomb would go off when the lights are turned off,” LAPD Det. Herardo Loza told KNX1070’s Pete Demetriou.

About 50 people were evacuated from an apartment complex as the bomb squad used a robot, a bomb dog and conducted a hand search.

No explosives were found, and at 4:30 a.m. residents were allowed to return home.

Officials spoke to the owner of the car and determined he had no involvement in the threat.
