2 Deputies Rush Into Burning Apartment Building To Save Man

PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com) — Two sheriff's deputies were credited Wednesday with saving a 51-year-old man who was unconscious inside a burning building in Pico Rivera.

Deputies Michael Calderon and George Madrid responded to a blaze at an apartment complex in the 8600 block of Whittier Boulevard around 1:30 a.m.

Neighbors told the men a person was still inside one of the smoked-out units. The deputies immediately ran into the apartment and pulled the victim to safety.

Calderon and Madrid were taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

The victim, who suffered burns to his face and body, remains at the hospital in serious, but stable condition.
