LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An employee of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) was found dead inside a power plant in Long Beach.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has identified the deceased as 60-year-old Vincent Martinez.

A statement issued by the agency says Martinez was found about 1:30 a.m. Saturday inside the Haynes Generating Station, which is currently undergoing renovations.

The statement says Martinez’s body was found away from the construction zone.

“This is a tragic loss and tragedy for our employee’s family and our entire LADWP family,” said Aram Benyamin, Senior Assistant General Manager, Power. “Our hearts go out to the family, friends and co-workers of our employee.”

Martinez’s cause of death remains under investigation.
