The closure impacting the busy artery from Ventura Boulevard to Mulholland Drive began at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The closure will impact the route from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday-Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
The route will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the overnight hours and on Sundays.
The shutdown until approximately April 25 will allow the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) to replace a 99-year-old water line.
That aging water main ruptured in 2009 and flooded parts of Studio City, causing millions of dollars in damage.
Those who live and work in the construction zone will be granted special permits with limited access.
During peak commuting times, it’s estimated that more than 1,300 vehicles use the roadway each hour. Alternate routes include the 405 and the 101 freeways.
