Police Out In Force For St. Patrick's Day Weekend

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles police won't be the only ones cracking down on drunken driving this St. Patrick's Day weekend.

As CBS2's Brittney Hopper reports, many Irish pubs are also making sure revelers drink responsibly.

Rock & Reilly's in West Hollywood has partnered with car services and is offering a $20 discount to new clients which will go toward their ride home.

"Ultimately, we don't want anybody getting hurt, getting in trouble, being over served. We just want everyone to have a good time and celebrate St. Patty's Day," Clark Main, the bar manager, said.

He also says his staff has been trained to not over serve or serve to minors.

At Jameson's Irish Pub in Hollywood, the manager told Hopper that they will be watching closely and doing their best to make sure no one drinks and drives.

Many surprise DUI checkpoints have been set up throughout the city.

There were 26 DUI-related collisions in LA during the St. Patrick's Day period last year, authorities said. Of those, 10 involved an injury.
