PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after nearly drowning in a backyard pool Saturday, according to officials.
The girl was airlifted to a hospital in Pacoima after being pulled from the pool in the 11500 block of Bonham Avenue, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The near drowning was reported just after 6:15 p.m.
The girl’s mother told officials the child had been out of sight only a few minutes. The girl was found, face down, in the mostly empty pool.
She was discovered “in two feet of putrid, storm water that had gotten into the pool,” Humphrey said.
The mother was able to pull her daughter out of the water before rescuers arrived.
The girl — in critical condition at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles — was conscious and breathing when paramedics arrived, according to Humphrey.
