LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — Two employees at a La Canada Flintridge sporting goods store were burned after a gas explosion on Friday.
Deputies from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station were on scene after the explosion near a Sport Chalet store in the Town Center Mall at Angeles Crest Highway and Foothill Blvd. at around 10:10 a.m., according to deputies.
KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Al Yanagisawa said two people had already been injured when units arrived at the store.
“The first-in resources identified two individuals who had sustained injuries while working in an electrical closet,” Yanagisawa said.
One witness told KCAL9′s Cristy Fajardo he was already in the store when he smelled gas in a “maintenance-type closet”. After the witness informed the manager, two store employees went into the closet to turn off the gas when the explosion occurred.
The employees were hospitalized, but their conditions were not released.
There were conflicting reports over whether the store was open when the explosion occurred.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
