Insider Secrets To Recreating Oscar Looks

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Oscar-nominated actresses Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts may have rocked glamorous gowns worth tens of thousands of dollars on the red carpet Sunday, but their hair and makeup cost significantly less and can be recreated with the right tools of the trade.

Celebrity hairstylist Paul Perez, who works at Sally Hershberger in Los Angeles, said Watts' messy updo can be done in a few minutes.

"Basically, what you would do is pull (the hair) all back into a ponytail, as tight as you possibly can, because you can pull pieces out as you work with it," he said.

Perez said it's necessary to use a lot of hairspray.

"The hairspray is holding everything in place," he said.

Celebrity makeup artist Monique Santiago said highlighter was key for Watts' dewy look.

"You want to touch upon the forehead where the sun normally will hit...the nose," she said.

To replicate Chastain's "old Hollywood" hair, Perez said to start with a deep part and then curl.

"It's important to tease the top so you really get that lift, which makes it that Hollywood glam '40s style," he said.

Santiago said Chastain's black eyeliner and berry lips gave the "Zero Dark Thirty" actress a complete look.

Perez recommended these products for a celeb-inspired hairstyle:

  • Sally Hershberger Plump Up
  • Sally Hershberger Major Body Volumizing Boost
  • Sally Hershberger 24K Texturizing Paste

Santiago recommended these makeup products:

  • Bobbie Brown "Black Ink" Gel Liner
  • NARS "Desire" Blush
  • Make Up For Ever Uplight Face Luminizer Gel (#12)
  • MAC Highlighting Brush (#137)
