LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A suspected DUI driver has been arrested after he fled the scene of a minor freeway accident and then crashed into a home in the mid-city area.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on the 10 Freeway near Vermont Avenue, the California Highway Patrol said.

An unidentified man, driving a white minivan, fled the scene and was followed by the female driver involved in the crash, officials said.

The man exited the freeway and tried to evade the woman in a residential neighborhood when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed  into a home in the in the 4000 block of West 17th Street, Los Angeles police said.

Authorities estimate the van was traveling at 30mph when it collided with the house.

The home was occupied by a family of three, including a 4-year-old girl whose bedroom was located near the crash site.

“My niece, she lives inside the house…. Her bedroom is right next to that door and I ran in there but she was fine. . . . Her bed got kinda pushed in. We got nervous. We was just scared,” the girl’s uncle told CBS2.

No one was injured in the home.

The minivan driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police say he may also face hit-and-run charges from the freeway accident.

Damage estimates to the home were not available.
