Carson Preschool Shut Down Amid Allegations That Kids Engaged In Sex Acts

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — A Carson preschool was shut down by state regulators in the wake of allegations that children engaged in sexual acts with each other on school grounds.

The First Lutheran Child Development Center was originally scheduled to close Friday after its director resigned for personal reasons, but the California Department of Social Services ordered a temporary suspension order on Wednesday.

"The Department has determined that there was an immediate risk to the children in care at First Lutheran Child Development Center," the agency said in a letter.

The school has 15 days to appeal the decision.

At least six parents have sued the preschool after they learned their kids reportedly participated in oral sex acts.

The parents claim staff members failed to supervise the students.

Richard McCarthy said his 5-year-old son was molested in an unlocked bathroom in Oct. 2012.

"A teacher opened the door and saw (a female classmate) performing oral sex on my son," he said.

The sexual misconduct reportedly occurred multiple times in the bathroom, on the playground and during naptime.
