LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Gas prices in Los Angeles County are the highest in the state after topping $4 a gallon.
Gas prices, which were in the $3.60 to $3.85 range for several weeks, are now an average of $4.017 a gallon in Los Angeles County. Gas prices in LA or Orange County, where a gallon of gas is now average of $4.002, haven’t hit the dreaded $4 mark since November, KNX 1070’s Pete Demetriou reports.
“The last week, we’ve seen gas prices go up by 25 cents, and in one week, that’s a big jump,” Marie Montgomery with the Auto Club of Southern California said. “That’s a lot of hit to people’s pocketbooks.”
The reasons for the spike in gas prices vary, from Mideast tensions, to refinery maintenance coming early, to people investing in gas and oil stocks.
The average price of gas in LA County is the highest it has been since Nov. 5. In Orange County, the average price is 26.1 cents more than just a week ago.
The lowest average price for gas in the state is $3.723 in Modesto.
A drop in gas prices is not expected anytime soon.
