Suspected Gunman Taken Into Custody In Westlake District

WESTLAKE (CBSLA.com) — A suspected gunman has been taken into custody after reportedly barricading himself inside an apartment building in the Westlake District.

The suspect reportedly came out of the apartment building and was arrested, reported Sky9’s Derek Bell.

The incident began as a conflict between two people shortly after 3 p.m. Friday at 7th Street and Beacon Avenue.

It prompted authorities to place two schools on modified lockdown allowing school children to leave through gates not positioned near the perimeter.

Those schools were identified as Esperanza Elementary School and John H. Liechty Middle School.

A victim has not been located, police said.

No further information was immediately available.
