STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Lifestyle designer P. Allen Smith visited KCAL9 Friday to discuss the 4th annual Taste Awards and show viewers some home and garden trends for 2013!

The Taste Awards were held Thursday night in Los Angeles. Also known as the TASTY Awards, it’s the premier broadcast awards show celebrating the year’s best achievements in food, fashion, and lifestyle programs on television, in film, online, and on the radio.

Home and garden trends:

– Pantone is the color of the year

– Succulents are an easy, trendy, long-living plant. They are outrageously beautiful and perfect for the first time gardener. Succulents lower the fear factor and need very little water!

– Combine succulents and companion blooming plants for tablescapes and center pieces
