The hoax was the latest incident in a trend known as celebrity swatting, where someone makes a fake police report that would require a SWAT team to be sent out to a star’s home.

Officers swarmed the superstar’s home after someone called to report an armed robbery, Sgt. Renato Moreno said. They soon discovered the report was fake.

The bogus call came in at 11:51 a.m. Thursday, Moreno said.

Cruise wasn’t home when officers arrived.

Police talked with the actor’s private security and learned the call didn’t originate from the house.

Miley Cyrus, Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber and Simon Cowell also have been reportedly targeted.

It’s happening in LA and the latest incident involved Tom Cruise’s house. […]
