SAN DIMAS (CBSLA.com) —A suspicious package prompted the evacuation of a San Dimas shopping mall Friday night.
The unidentified device was found at the Station Shopping Mall at Cienga and Arrow, near Lone Hill.
Someone called to say they found what was possibly a hand grenade in the parking lot.
Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and discovered what they also thought was a hand grenade.
They evacuated several nearby restaurants and businesses.
Mundel said a member of the bomb squad picked up the device after determining it was inert and not dangerous.
Officials said the device was a “replica” grenade and the public was never in any danger.
About 8:30 p.m. the location got the all-clear, according to Mundel.
