Man Fatally Shot In OIS After Allegedly Driving Car At Officers In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A man was fatally shot by officers Friday morning after he allegedly drove a car at them in Santa Ana.

A two-man unit patrolling a residential neighborhood near Third and Maxine streets around 12:45 a.m. approached a man who was sitting in the rear of a white sedan.

The suspect quickly got himself into the driver seat and started the vehicle, according to officials.

"As the officers attempted to contact him, he puts the car in drive and drives toward the officers," Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. "There was an officer-involved shooting. He crashes into a car in front him. That stops the car."

Paramedics were called to treat the suspect, but after several unsuccessful attempts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured in the incident.
