SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) Mike Caffey had 19 points and nine rebounds and James Ennis added 18 points to lead Long Beach State to a 77-70 victory against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
Tony Freeland scored 15 points and Dan Jennings 13 for the 49ers (6-8, 2-1 Big West), who shot 54.2 percent (32 of 59) from the field and got all but four of their points from the starting lineup.
Alan Williams had 16 points and eight rebounds and Michael Bryson added 15 points for the Gauchos (5-9, 1-2).
Williams’ 3-pointer got UC Santa Barbara within 71-68 with 1:36 remaining. But after a Jennings dunk at the other end, Williams missed two free throws, and the Gauchos missed three of their last four shots from the floor.
