LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A bystander and suspected car thief were injured Wednesday during a police chase in South Los Angeles.
LAPD officers said they began following the suspects around 1:06 p.m. in Gardena after receiving reports that the vehicle he was driving was stolen.
The pursuit ended in an apparent crash after the vehicle was forced off the road and onto the curb at an intersection near 25th Street and Broadway, SKY9′s Derek Bell reported.
The occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot down 25th Street in what Bell described as a “running gun battle.”
At least one of the occupants was hit by gunfire and suffered minor injuries.
Police have confirmed that a man in his 40s — an innocent bystander — was also shot and hospitalized.
The intersection was shut down as police continued their investigation.
