NEWHALL (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a man driving under the influence of drugs drove on the wrong side of the road, crashed his car into two unoccupied vehicles, slammed into a construction worker and then attacked two paramedics and a nurse trying to render him aid.

The crash occurred at a construction site in Newhall.

Valencia resident Alex Montes, 27, slammed his car into two unoccupied construction vehicles and injured one construction worker, according to a CHP report. The worker -- 48-year-old Clark Rivera of Lawndale -- was knocked to the ground but not seriously injured.

The accident took place on The Old Road just south of Calgrove Boulevard just after 9:50 p.m. Friday when Montes drove the wrong way on The Old Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.

First responders arrived at the scene to help Montes. According to the CHP, he then allegedly became violent and assaulted two paramedics.

After being subdued, Montes was taken to  Henry Mayo Hospital where he allegedly assaulted several hospital personnel causing minor injuries to a nurse.

Montes was admitted to the hospital for observation. He faces a variety of charges when he's released, according to the CHP.
