SAN JACINTO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a convenience store employee who was knocked unconscious after a slip-and-fall was subsequently beaten with a stolen 40-ounce bottle of beer.

Deputies said in a statement released by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department that the incident occurred at a 7-Eleven store in the 1400 block of South San Jacinto Avenue about 2:21 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect — identified by authorities as a Hispanic man — had entered the store and attempted to steal a bottle of beer, the statement said.

That’s when an employee at the store followed the suspect outside but fell and was knocked unconscious.

After fleeing on foot, the statement says the suspect returned and allegedly struck the victim with the full 40-ounce beer bottle.

The victim, whose condition was not immediately known, was also repeatedly punched, authorities said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Investigator Janecka or the San Jacinto Police Department’s Detective Bureau at (951) 654-2702.
