LAGUNA NIGUEL (CBSLA.com) — A bassist for the 1960s-era psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly has died at the age of 70.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department says Lee Dorman was found dead in a car in his hometown of Laguna Niguel.
Mike Landa, reporting for KNX 1070, says Dorman may have been on his way to a doctor’s appointment.
According to authorities, no autopsy is planned on Dorman and no foul play is suspected. He is believed to have died of natural causes.
Iron Butterfly created a sensation in 1968 with a 17-minute-long opus called “In-A-Godda-Da-Vida.”
A shorter rendition of the song reached number 30 on Billboard’s music charts.
The band toured with the song in the late 1960s before breaking up.
