Flights Canceled As Winter Storm Pounds Midwest

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Passengers at Los Angeles International and other airports faced possible delays Thursday as severe winter weather conditions moved across the Midwest.

Southwest Airlines announced it would be "monitoring the snowy and windy conditions" that could lead to possible disruptions in scheduled flight service to Chicago, Cleveland and five other U.S. cities.

The airline had cancelled the majority of flights on Thursday from Chicago Midway and Milwaukee, with some cancellations for Kansas City.

As of midday, there were no reported disruptions at LAX, where KNX 1070's Vytas Safronikas reports officials are urging passengers to frequently check their flight status for updates.

"LAX has their own flight tracker to see what flights are delayed or have been canceled," said Katherine Alvarado of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).

Passengers can check the real-time status of any flight at the LAWA website.

Passengers with reservations to travel to any affected cities may be eligible to reschedule their flight by visiting Southwest.com.
