HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities accuse a 21-year-old Redondo Beach man of fatally hitting a female pedestrian in Hawthorne Friday evening.
Officials say Ryan Mascioni was also allegedly drunk when he hit the unidentified woman. An hour after the 11 p.m. crash, police say Mascioni went to the Lawndale station and turned himself in.
Mascioni was reportedly driving an Audi as it sped past other vehicles waiting for the woman to cross the street in the 13000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard.
Hawthorne Police Lt. Scott Swain said the woman was crossing the rain-slicked street as a yellow Audi plowed into her.
After hitting the victim, witnesses said the Audi also slammed into two park cars.
Paramedics transported the victim to Harbor General Hospital. She was later pronounced dead, Swain said.
The name of the deceased was withheld pending notification of her family.
