Corona Officials Identify Suspect Who Fatally Shot Himself During Standoff

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — Coroner's officials have identified the Corona man who fired gunshots at his wife and then took his own life during a tense standoff with police officers.

Rob Azad, 59, was found dead Saturday inside his Ingram Drive home where he barricaded himself from SWAT team members and other officers for several hours.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., police said Azad had allegedly chased his wife out and fired a number of shots at her, before returning to his home in a gated community.

The woman was able to make it to a neighbor's home without injury.

A SWAT team was called but authorities said they were unable to make contact with the alleged shooter.

Corona SWAT, along with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, made entry into the residence hours later and found Azad dead as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The time of death was listed by the Riverside County Coroner's Office as 4:20 p.m.
