VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — The LA County Coroner Sunday identified the 18-year-old suspect they fatally shot last night.
Police said when they responded to a 911 call regarding an assault in Van Nuys they saw a man holding a knife to a woman’s throat.
The man refused to drop the weapon and police shot him, said authorities.
The suspect was identified as Jeovany Mendoza, 18, of Van Nuys. His relationship to the woman was unclear.
The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. near Tobias Avenue and Saticoy Street.
Authorities said the woman had cuts to her hands and throat but her wounds were not life-threatening and she is expected to make a full recovery.
No officers were hurt in the incident, said authorities.
