Man Arrested In Pasadena House Fire That Killed 2

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — An arrest has been made in a fatal fire that killed two men and severely burned another at a San Gabriel Valley boarding facility Thursday.

Investigators say the fire broke out around 2:15 a.m. Thursday at the home in the 1300 block of El Sereno Avenue in Pasadena.

KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reports arson investigators with the Pasadena Fire Department say the fire was "intentionally set" by 49-year-old Garth Allen Robbins.

Investigators say they recovered evidence "indicative of an intentionally set fire in Mr. Robbins' room."

Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before the house filled with smoke.

Two unidentified men died in the fire while 16 others were able to escape.

Perry Simons, 65, is remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Robbins was arrested around 5:45 a.m. Friday at a local restaurant without incident, police said.

He was booked at the Pasadena City Jail for murder. Robbins is being held without bail.

Damages from the fire are estimated at $1.35 million.
