22-Year-Old Soldier From Murrieta Among 2 Killed In Afghanistan

MURRIETA (CBSLA.com) — A 22-year-old man from Murrieta was one of two soldiers killed in Afghanistan this week, it was announced Saturday.

A statement issued by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command office says Sgt. Clinton K. Ruiz was killed in action Thursday during a skirmish.

A graduate of Murrieta Valley High School in 2008, Ruiz enlisted in the U.S. Army the following year.

He is survived by his wife and 1-year-old son, Caleb.

A trust fund will be established for Caleb. Checks should be payable to Caleb Ruiz at CalBankTrust.com

Another solider, identified as 31-year-old Staff Sgt. Kashif Memon of Texas, also died Thursday. Memon was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom after enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2007.

Both men were killed during combat in the Uruzgan Province, the statement said.
